ABOUT THE AUTHOR

David Baron is an award-winning science
journalist, author, and public radio broadcaster. He currently serves as
health and science editor for the PRI/BBC program
The World, and he recently produced a special NPR series called "Shifting
Ground," which examined America's changing landscape. For many
years, he reported on science, medicine, and the environment for NPR
and for the Boston public radio station WBUR.
David's reporting has touched on all aspects
of science, from AIDS to cloning, black holes to humpback whales. During
his 20-year career, he has produced hundreds of stories, interviewed at least a
dozen Nobel laureates, visited all seven continents, witnessed two volcanic eruptions, and stood on one
pole of the earth (the South).
David's radio work has received numerous honors, including, on three occasions,
the annual journalism
award from the
American Association for the Advancement of Science,
and he received (along with a team from The World) a
duPont-Columbia Award, broadcasting's equivalent of the
Pulitzer. David's
written work has
appeared in the Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, Outside,
and Reader's Digest. The Beast in the Garden is his first
book.
Prior to
