[T]he
dean
of lion hunters
was Ben Lilly. A southern mountain man famed for his skill and perseverance
in tracking cougars, Lilly was an expert shot (I
never saw a lion that I did not kill or wound,
he bragged) who tempered his homemade knives in panther oil and ate lion
meat to acquire the cats agility and endurance. |
