“When Michael Sanders arrived that afternoon to investigate, he could read the entire story in the snow.  A disturbed area in the blanket of white just west of the house revealed where the lion had ambushed the deer.  From there, a drag mark—a long, flat depression in the snow’s surface that looked like the trace of a child pulling a plastic toboggan—showed where the lion had hauled its quarry.  Cat tracks and specks of blood paralleled the drag mark.”
