[Halfpenny] had a rugged face.... His hair, dark and straight and shiny (it
almost looked shellacked), draped down his temples where it covered his ears
and, merging with thick sideburns and a heavy beard, outlined his face with
a ring of black. The dark features, the deep-set eyes, the hirsute chest
through the open collar of a flannel shirt, gave him the look of a mountain
man, albeit one who cleaned up nicely.” |
