“Scott Lancaster, a small boy with shoulder-length sandy hair billowing from
his black helmet, rode up and took his place along the left curb, the last
spot remaining in the second line of racers. He leaned forward on the
handlebars, his left foot on the ground and his right foot resting on the
pedal. With his shaved legs, black Lycra shorts, white Gitane bicycle, Bell
V1 Pro helmet, and Oakley Factory Pilot sunglasses—the same style worn by
Greg LeMond—Scott looked like a young version of the professional racers he
admired.... Scott’s number, 30, was safety-pinned to the sleeves and back of
his T-shirt.” |
